O.H. Herman Middle School was originally constructed in 1949, with a 6th grade wing addition in 1990, and Band Hall in 1996. The current middle school is the only VVISD school building not located on the same campus south of Highway 35. A facility assessment completed by architects and engineers show significant repairs needed. Example needs include, but are not limited to, poor grading in the parking lot causing water infiltration into the building, existing water lines beyond life expectancy, non-existent fire sprinkler system, and asbestos in carpet mastic. The kitchen and cafeteria are too small for the school’s current capacity, and the gymnasium requires a complete renovation to address outdated systems and student safety issues.
